Sweaty

Day 1: Bangkok!

We arrived in a darkened Bangkok at 5am, caught the train from the aiport for about $1.20 and then caught a local bus to our accommodation for about 40cents. At this point we were saturated. No, it wasn’t raining. It was humid sweat. We couldnt check into our hostel room yet so we took a shower and set out to explore Bangkok.
The receptionist at our hostel was lovely and told us about the JJ Markets which only happen on the weekend, so we caught another 40c bus to the markets.
After finding some vegetarian Thai style fried noodles we went shopping in the sweaty maze of market stalls. Leather, denim, knock offs, shoes, trinkets - this place was more confusing that Chermside or Chadstone! After a few hours of trapesing around, and getting completely lost, we were far too sweaty and exhausted to go on. We tried to head back to where the bus dropped us off but we had walked way too far down and couldnt find our bearings. After finding
2 bus stops that did not service our bus number, we gave in and hailed a tuk tuk. 120 Baht more in price but I’m glad that we got to exerience the Thai cliche, weaving through the busy streets of Bangkok.

After a small nanna nap and a bottle of Coke we were ready to take on the markets again- this time just a short stroll down the road to Khao San road. This is the main tourist/backpacker road. Imagine Katy Perry blasting from speakers, the street lined with market stalls and sidewalk pubs, fake Ray bans and iPhone cases, massages in the street. It’s pretty much exactly how I pictured Bangkok. We did some more shopping and then we found a day spa that did the fish spa! For 150 baht I tentitively lowered my legs into a tank full of tiny fish. I was squirming and yelping for the first 5 minutes - it tickled so much! And seeing these little leech like fish sucking on my lega and feet just generally freaked me out also. By the end though it just felt like a light massage and actually felt nice! Except that they sucked off my tan. Then Crouton and I got a manicure and pedicure for 250 baht! So thats about $8. So great!

After feeling all relaxed and sleepy we headed back and ate a vegetarian thai curry along the way, then we were ready to just chill and pass out before our 4.30am wake up call to catch the train to Cambodia!
